The first Social Study Conference summer school took place in Galway in 1952. Since then, the SSC has visited venues all over Ireland to discuss and debate current social issues.
In 1992, journalists, politicians, academics and those interested in the power and influence of the media all came together in Derry to debate 'The Media and Modern Society in Ireland'.
With the impact of the media on society now more crucial than ever before, this is an appropriate time to revisit the theme and return to Derry/ Londonderry/Doire/Calgach Doire to put the media under the microscope once again to discuss and debate the relevant issues of media power and media practice in the 21st century.
